Skype for SIP home setup

Hi
Anyone have any experience getting skype for sip running on home lines using simple SIP hardware like the Linksys SPA 3102 / 2102 ?

Specifically - is it possible without installing a rack of equipment? Details are thin and google seems clogged up with "classic skype" forum posts about sip!

It "sounds" like they offer a SIP server address, which you could then plug into your 2102/3102 etc. but I haven't tried it and don't plan on doing any time soon. the reason being it appears to be an extraordinarily uncompetitive offering.

A monthly fee per channel whether used or not, standard Skype phone rates, connection fees per call, all add up to an expensive call! Maybe the saving grace is the €4.95 unlimited bundle to 30 destinations, but I haven't checked the fine print on that to see how "unlimited" it really is.

I failed to see any advantage in using it tbh.
If I want to receive calls from Skype users it would be cheaper to use a Skype phone for the purpose.
Call rates seem to be no better than my SIP VOIP rates, so I have no need to use Skype to make outgoing calls to other than Skype users.

For some businesses if they could use it to target Skype users as customers then I guess it might have an attraction ... but if they have a PBX there are ways of integrating Skype into that ....

Maybe Skype will be forced to open their network to calls from SIP users and allow their users to phone SIP users sometime in the future -- free of course. Without that I don't see a huge gain for them ..... or me
