Lost my only key to my 1997 Mk3 Toyota Hilux.
I'm hoping I can get new key from Toyota dealers on Monday by giving them the chassis number.
Anyone had similar experiences who might be able to advise on best course of action.
    Thanks

Should be OK. Don't think they have an immobiliser. you'll need proof of ownership.

    Thanks Colm.

I called a 24hr. locksmith service and it would cost €150 to get a key today if no immobiliser and €350 if it has an immobiliser.

I'm hoping I can give the Toyota dealers the Chassis number and get a new key from them or a cheaper locksmith on Monday.

Toyota will be cheaper if it hasn't an immobiliser.

If you get the key code from Toyota a locksmith should be able to cut a key for around €20

It would probably be as cheap to get the lockset from a scrap yard and put new locks in with new keys! Should be able to open the door with an adapted wire coathanger pushed down from the top of the door!

Toyota dealers quoted €400 excl. VAt for ignition system and extra for coded keys and EMU unit.

    Local locksmith quoted €500.

Rang previous owner in UK and he emailed me Key code which menat I could get new key for €25.

having been through all that someone found my key on Sunday and waited for local garage to be open and dropped it in there. I'm delighted.

Hope this episode has helped people realise we all need 2 keys.
