Direct USB mp3 player? Help please!

Hi,

I'm looking for a bit of help with with looking for an mp3 player that has direct USB conection to go into a stereo. It's for my Dad as a Christmas present and as he's unable to use a computer we've already gotten him a stereo that will covert all his records into mp3 format. Hoping to get a fairly big one, around 16-32 gb if that's possible. The largest one I can find so far is only 4gb in Argos

Can you expand on what you mean by "direct"? in my mind you're talking about a gumstick style mp3 player with usb built in, is that correct?

Could you find and post a link to the stereo you got for your dad? maybe that'll help open up some options.

and the type of mp3 thing that i'm looking to get is something like this:

except obviously bigger, it says in the catulouge that this can be directly downloaded onto from the stereo.

Just about any PMP that connects by USB via msc will do the job, but as you're limited to the gumstick shape you're talking about I don't think you'll be able to get past 4gb in terms of capacity. Sandisk might have been planning to release their Sansa Express in 8gb capacity but I'm not sure if they ever did.

You might need to be flexible with the type of PMP you're after.

I don't mind what shape it is all that is important is that I don't need to hook it up to a computer at all. I want to be able to just load it onto the portable mp3 straight from the player as my dad won't have a hope of using something like iTunes or anything like that

Sony X1000, Cowon S9 both reach 32gb. The ipod touch hits 64gb and classic is 160gb, according to that littlewoods page it works with ipods, not sure if that's true though.

I'd be keen to stay away from an iPod as I wouldn't trust the them to work without an pc, will the other two work without having to sync to a pc?

They're both msc compliant so they should, can't guaranty anything though.
