Hey whats the story with Bombay Panty folks?

Has anyone any idea how good/bad it is for you? I know they cook everything fresh etc so I'm just wondering if it is ok to have their meals as part of a calorie controlled diet (by that I mean that I wont blow 1500 cals on one main??).

I love their Chicken Karahi and would only really eat steamed Basmati with it......anyone any idea how good / bad this is?

Their menu has little symbols to show if it is high in fat. I find it very disappointing that they no longer have tandoori on the menu  Tandoori chicken would have been the best thing, though the naan bread automatically came with it.

The real issue is portion size, they are massive, also means they are actually quite reasonable, I could get 2 days out of it. They sell chilled food in dunnes & other places and I reckon it is more expensive than getting it delivered, as the portions are much smaller.

I worked out an estimate for letseatin before (smaller portion)

I got a chicken korma with steamed basmati rice in "lets eat in". No values come with it so I will estimate them.

Rice was 310g, korma was 520g. I would estimate there was a small-medium chicken fillet in the korma, so say 120g cooked meat, which is around 120kcal per 100g, so 144kcal, not much fat. The sauce was quite rich with a lot of oil so I go for a similar rich decent brand supermarket one to compare. Lloyd grossman korma sauce 244kcal per 100g, 10g sat fat. So the remaining korma sauce was 400g (520-120), so 976kcal and 40g sat fat. The uncle bens ready cooked basmati 148kcal 0.5g sat fat. So 459kcal, 1.5g sat fat.

So in total 1579kcal and 41.5g sat fat. So using this http://points.ogo.ms/ I get 32.5 points. (all estimates of course)

This portion was actually not that big for a takeaway, usually in proper Indian takeaways I would get a much bigger portion. The cartons were square sort of American ones, which appeared small but held a lot, but you would get more in a typical Chinese takeaway, and more in the Indian.

EDIT: I now see tandoori is back as a new item on the menu, and only €8 so it might be a smaller portion, they have a few cheaper options now which I presume are smaller. Hearts after them all (the low fat symbol)

What??? No way you have got to be ****ting me, the sauces cound not come to nearly 1000 cals surely!? That's insane, take for example the karahi chicken...that's mainly spices and some oil but not 1000 cals worth:eek:

Also I am always very disappointed with the amount of chicken they give u, only ever 5 pieces....but noting like a Bombay to give u a runny nose!! But if it's really 1500 cals a pop I'm not going there again!!!

That was a korma which is quite high in fat, just look in a supermarket at a similar upmarket brand of similar tomato based sauce. But weigh like I did, the portions are huge, too many people put out a bit on a plate, then go back and have more. If you dump it all onto the plate in one go it is FAR bigger than any ready/microwave meal you would get. Weigh the rice etc and work it out like I did, its not hard. If you are calorie counting a scales is essential, I would recommend a digital salter brand one in argos.

great thanks for the advice. Had a quick look online and there is a heart symbol for low in fat beside my Karahi so I'm happier now!

Even low fat dishes can have masses of calories in carbs and protein. Portion control important. Ask for extra veg instead of rice .

There would be a huge variance depending on which meal you go for. Dishes prepared with cream would have much more calories than others prepared with maybe a tomato base.
