What do you mean by the 'wide' button? If you change the screen resolution to either 16:9 or 4:3, then that should solve the issue.

Wrong picture ratio setting on your Sky box?

Press the "Services" button on your Sky remote, select 4 - "System setup", then 1 - "Picture settings". Using "picture format" select 16:9 (for widescreen TV's), 4:3 or 4:3L (letterbox). Then go down to "save new settings" and press the select button to store your new settings.

I have done this correctly on my Sky box with auto set on my Sharp TV and only recently more and more programmes are being shown as 4:3 e.g. 'Keeping Up Appearances' was being shown in 4:3 via Sky while it filled the full screen on analogue! Freinds on E 4 has only recently been shown in 4:3 as well. Adverts are in widescreen. Anyone any ideas as to why this has happened?

Nothing wrong there! Your sky box is doing what it is meant to do. The programmes you mention were shot originally in 4:3. My Sony telly is on auto too and does the same thing.

Even some modern programming is in 4:3. Sky Sports News is 4:3, bar adverts when it switches to 16:9. I like it this way myself. I hate "Fatscreen", which is what you get filling the screen with a 4:3 programme.
