Trying to think of Xmas presents for the boyfriend, is it possible to use the Wii as a browers for the internet? I know I would have to source a Wii compatible keyboard, but any equipment beyond that?

Is it just like a normal browser, all sites allowed or simply social networking and email?

    Thanks

There is an Internet browser (called the Internet Channel) available for the Wii. It doesn't come pre-installed, but it can be downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel for free.

It's not very feature rich like a proper browser (the RTÉ Player isn't supported for instance), but you can use it to browse most websites. I find it's also a little slower than a full browser.

No special equipment is needed either. A USB keyboard would be handy (and quicker), but you can browse just using the Wii remote. An onscreen keyboard appears for text input, and it includes a for of predictive text.

I wouldn't recommend it, I find it easier and quicker to boot up the computer than use the Wii.

That aside a Wii makes a great gift.

No, there's only one browser available.

RTÉ might release something for the Wii like the BBC did in the UK, but I highly doubt it.

Yes I agree, but its good to have the option on the wii, I did not buy it for surfing but its good they added it.

The Wii uses Opera 9 as its web browser, it can be handy and they have the wii site where you can play some fun point and click games, also the font is slightly bigger so that you can view it from the safety of your couch.

The biggest problem for me is that the browser does not support Adobe Flash 8 or 9 so there can be a lot of problems with flash as its using an older version :(
