iPod Classic 80GB - grrrrrrr

    hey all,

I'm at my wits end here. my buddy was at my place yesterday and i was leeching music from his ipod using senuti which is all grand and good but his ipod is windows formatted whereas we were on my iMac. Basically itunes froze and I quit the application, ejected the iPod and found that everything went missing. So far i knew what was wrong.

I found out that there's an issue with iTunes 9 and the iPod classic range so I did my research online. I un-installed iTunes and re-installed itunes 8.2 to find that the ipod will sync but only to 1000 files and then stops syncing or gets extremely slow.

Now what I've done is I've put the ipod into disk mode and tried to restore it but hey presto, this cannot be done. I'm guessing there's a corrupted file in the iPod. So I reformatted the iPod with Disk Utility, erased all files and firmware while updatin the firmware to the current package. The issue is still apparent.

I then decided to use another format, Songbird by Mozilla, a nice lil app (can be slow at times) to see if I coud sync the ipod with this. I can get as far as 14GBs and it gets extremely slow again. I've been working on this now for 16 hours straight checking every website I know of and basically deleting software, formatting the ipod, attempts at restoring the iPod, etc.

As far as I can see, there doesnt seem to be a solution, Apple are blaming the HDs and will not accept responsibility for iTunes 9. Their discussion forums have some solutions but they have not worked.

Can anyone help, please? Im at my wits end as I cant really afford to buy my mate a new iPod (im not going to wait for the solution as it could take months and it's unfair to my mate to not reimburse him for this error)

    Thanks

I'm having difficulty following everything, but I think what you need to do is give back your friends iPod, and get him to restore it from his PC. Sorry if I misunderstood.

ya there's a bit of a mouthful there. im thinking the same thing though his pc's in Dublin, we're down in Tralee for the year.
that's why i formatted it and deleted the drivers, so as to see if i could mount the ipod from my mac and basically start from scratch. i've done a manual restore as well which is fine. jus stressful.

The only other thing I can think of is that there is a corrupted aac/mp3 file on your machine. Can you try and see if it fails on the same file each time?
If you can identify the track it's failing on, delete it from iTunes.

well the thing is, is that it's not a specific track as I've tried different ways of syncing like manually putting music on and once it gets to the 2600 mark or so it just gets really slow and i cancel the sync and the music tht was synced on it previously just disappears. iTunes then asks me if I want to restore the iPod again. im going to try restoring it on a windows pc and see what happens.

It could be a corrupted song, would you know of any good software. all i can find are scripts and i'm absolutely useless at them. thanks again for the suggestions though.

Well if you are willing to pay Disk Warrior is usually able to solve most issues with disks.
