HDMI & DVD recorder

To connect Samsung DVD recorder DVDSH893 to Samsung LCD TV LE40B551A6WQXU can I use scart and hdmi at same time?

I have coax from aerial and scart(from freesat) into recorder and coax, scart and hdmi to TV, but half the functions dont work, no EPG, no onscreen dvd controls, and I can only record what I'm watching. Are these models suitable for Irish market? If so, how should they be connected?
I've no interest in controlling from one remote, - I just want to be able to record a different channel from the one I'm watching.
Any info on how these might be connected would be appreciated.....

I've a samsung 875M. I used to have it connected from a Freesat box on Scart. As far as I know the HDMI is output only - i.e connect to TV. Then you probably have 2 scarts - 1 for the TV - not worth connecting (although you can) and the other one would take the Freesat. If you connect the TV scart - you can probably record the tv output if your TV supports it - my panny supports timed DVB output on the Scart.

I think the recorder will only record what you watch - it expects you to watch something else on the TV tuner.

The 875 is MPEG2 only so doesn't do DTT. Not sure about your model. If it is MPEG 4 it may not be compatible on the EPG etc.

I don't think I ever see on screen DVD controls - just the menu stuff.

Thanks, Martin - I'll try disconnecting HDMI / or one scart and see what happens..............
