    Hi all,

I'm looking for a VW Golf Van, silver, 07-08 but can't find anything within my budget. I was trying some uk sites but none seem to list golf vans.

I was wondering what is involved in buying a golf car in the UK and converting it into a van? Is it as easy as taking out the back seats?

    What happens with the VRT?

If anyone knows of a golf van with relatively low milage matching the description above please let me know.

    Thanks.

There was a thread here a few days ago about commericalising a 350z, should answer most of your questions.

    [EDIT]
    Found it - http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055759047

You'd have to be really damn stupid to want to import a 5seater golf from UK instead of a van!

    - Vans are a helluva lot cheaper in UK than passenger vehicles

    - Vans have €50 vrt as commercial. youll be spending €1000's for the vrt on a passenger car

Checking up the north is your best bet. be patient to get your favourite car

Golf / Focus / Astra Sporthatch vans weren't sold in the UK. They were popular here because of the cheaper VRT, but there now isn't much difference in the cost of them compared to the car versions. Main reason for them in Ireland now is to avoid full BIK.

Would a Combo / Transit Connect not be suitable? Should be cheaper than a Golf Van.

If you are bringing in a Golf to convert to commercial, it will probably cost more than registering it as a car. Car Vans attract 13.3% VRT - a 1.9TDi would only be either 16% or 20% I think. By the time you've spent the money on the conversion it will probably work out more expensive, plus will have a lower resale value. You'd actually be better off just taking the back seats out if you need the load capacity, then you can put them back in before you sell it on.

Road tax on 08 onwards Diesel Golfs is probably cheaper or only €20 a year more than a commercial.

Thanks for all the info...might just get a caddy. test drove one last week, 09 model, not plyed out yet but some road noise... I could hear every speck of dust hit the wheel arch. Still though nice van.

    Commercial will be 13.5% VRT
    Passenger would be 16%.

Not that much of a difference.
