How far away could you get for €50

A radio station in the South East is doing this competition at the moment - how far away from the South East can you get for €50 - must include transport to the airport etc

Where do you reckon you could go?

Personally I think €10 would be better - you'd get a Ryanair flight to somewhere like Italy / Poland for €50 easily

I think I'd make it to North Africa / over around Ukraine

    The competition is over..
So..yeah, sure you're not basing your 'predictions' off the results they got? :D

PErsonally I don't think I'd get much further than France, I'd just lose motivation.

Train ticket to dublin costs nearly €50 so I wouldn't get much further than that.

For a start, the basic airport tax is €10 alone.

Add in a taxi to an airport (maybe €25, if you're fairly nearby) or petrol to get to the airport (maybe €10) and you'd easily be looking at about €100 to get to Italy or Poland.

Or, as others have pointed out above, a train to Dublin or Cork would set you back more than the €50, with a taxi to the train station costing another tenner.

    Didn't realise it was over

Still think I would have gotten further though, and I don't even have a pair of diddies

For €50 I could go visit the inverted pyramid of infinity.

Might not leave my bed, but I'd be pretty far away.

Is there a time limit? You could swim and walk to Cape Town for free.

Anne Marie managed to blag a bus ride to Dublin airport, busked, shoe shined and carried luggage all Saturday night to earn some extra money. Anne Marie couldn’t spend more than €50 so she had to avail of help from strangers to book a flight for her to Poland.

If that "help from strangers" was in any way financial, I'd view both of those as against the rules; I'd be pretty pissed off if I'd been in the competition.

I'd get on a bus to the airport, say I was going to one of the next towns, and stay on until the airport (when i lived abroad I did this every single time i came home, never once failed) - cost €6/7

Failing that you could hitch hike

You don't always pay the departure tax or airport charges for Ryanair flights (although you have to book 2 weeks in advance) - I have regularly flown to Europe and the amount that came out of my bank account was between €0.01 and €5.00 total

So your local bus goes directly past the airport ?

So that tenner - introduced in last year's budget - that Michael O'Leary has used as an excuse to kill off loads of Shannon flights is what - fiction ?

Even better, it goes directly into the airport (www.rapidexpress.ie)

And no the tax exists, but on their cheapest flights, Michael O'Leary pays it himself rather than the passenger

If you gave me €50 to go anywhere, I'd probably just go to tesco for some beer and junk food and then watch a film with the lads.

Hitchhike, occasionally offering people 20c not to abduct you. Or allow them to abduct you so long as they hold you near where you needed to be anyway.

Beat me to it. Hitch a lift with a long haul truck driver. You could get to the far east if you put out.

Solar powered electric motorbike could theoretically get me around the world....albeit very very slowly. Although I'd have to beg for food/water and get free shelter of some sort.

Alternatively, go for a very long journey in a sale boat. No fuel costs. So, just the cost of getting from your house to the docs. Oh, and stealing the boat.

Using legal means and paying for everything, I could probably get to the eastern europe on bicycle, before running out of money for food.

I could walk to Knock Airport and get the furthest flight possible for under 50 euro. Don't know how far I'd get.

Amazing! And to think it'd cost the rest of us €55 to even get to Dublin in order to avail of that!

I remember FHM did something simular A number of years ago, but with 100 pounds, and dressed in a chicken suit.

the deal was he'd get £1 for every mile from their office he got in 24hrs

Guy went to hethrow,(still dressed as a chicken) went to the KLM office and did a deal with them to put an Ad in his article for them for a free flight.

They gave him a flight to Wellington New Zealand

I think you could go quite far, central europe at least.

I once thumbed it back from Manchester to Dublin, (by the truck stops on the M6, hid in back of the cab getting on the boat, and then thumbed it to Dublin.) So i reckon all the money you would need is for grub. Or you could be a real cheapo and take it from the bins.

    1. Taxi to train/bus station - 10 euro
    2. One way ticket to dublin - 21 euro

So 19 euro to get to the airport, then whatever left for the flight

Drug joke number 3, we only have one or two left before it gets old.

TCD have a competition like this, they take everything off the competitors, wallet, money, etc., leaving them with just their passport, and whoever's furthest away in I think 24 hours wins. One guy one year got to Florida, he hitch hiked with a guy to the airport, who's friend had happened to cancel the flight with him, so your man, a business man, bought him a new ticket for his friend's seat.

Are you not allowed spend any money? That would be a challenge - how far in advance to you find out the dates?

You're allowed spend money, but you don't have any money or cards or anything on you, so you have to either earn it or get it from strangers.
