    Hi guys

Just wondering if somebody could help me. Would this laptop be a decent buy or would I be better of waiting for something in the sales?

I use it for basic home use - internet, storing all my photos, music (there is a decent amount, but I have hard drives too). I would like to begin doing some photoshopping of photos also.
I would have some light use for it in work MS office just word excel and powerpoint.

    Thanks in advance

    Griff

waiting for the sales? Lad, the sales already happened last Friday and Monday.

Laptop looks fine for light use. Unless you plan to use a webcam though I dont see why you need one.

Cant really say yes or no,
no weight displayed anywhere I could see, which I would clarify if I wanted the laptop for mobility reasons.
    http://www.aldi.ie/ie/html/offers/2827_11349.htm
It does have a HDMI out, handy for watchin movies on a big telly
It has wireless n & The screen resolution is proper 720p HD, another plus for when youre not watching big tellies.

    Intel GMA4500mhd though,
    It is Direct X 10,
It can run WOW at low res,
Has no dedicated video memory so it steals system ram
Integrated graphics increase your battery life, at the loss of performance
you chose, for my needs it would not suffice(games)

The battery is also nice, which is a 6cell unit, again a strong point.
You have no way of knowing if the battery will still take a charge in a years time, so use it plugged in as much as possible.

it also comes with a 36month manufacturers warranty, although Ive never dealt with Medion, I'd imagine you wouldnt want to lose your receipt, ever.
You should probably register it with them when you get it if possible.
And the warranty is RTB, return to base, you ship it to them(u arrange carridge, they send it back FOC)

It is a nice laptop, Medion wouldnt be top of anyones list afaik, although I haven't seen a lot of broken ones in my days spent repairing.
There will definately be a glut in the new year/sales
Intel are releasing a new Atom N450 chip on January 10 because they dont want to glut the market before xmas,
Its new atom is smaller, faster, cooler and more performance single core. While Atoms are in the sub 12" netbook market, more choice means less individual sales of competing products

If you can wait till the sales, then do
Id certainly have a look at laptopsdirect.ie and any others, although remember your looking at another €30 odd shipping, whereas if you buy from aldi, delivery is zero

Hi, I will be getting one myself. I have purchased from Aldi twice before.
I got a netbook for my wife last september. It gave trouble a couple of weeks ago. I got onto Medion support & explained the problem. After going through the Tech Support,it was decided the Netbook should be returned.
    Medion have organised the courier.
All I have to do is pack it up, phone the courier to collect it & it will be returned in 10 days fixed or replaced!
As the previous poster said KEEP YOUR RECEIPT & REGISTER YOUR LAPTOP WITH MEDION IMMEDIATELY. If you dont do the above you wont get the 3 year warranty.
I have done a fair amout of looking for a new laptop in recent weeks & nothing can touch this laptop for value for the price.
As said though if you are a gamer then it wouldn't be for you.

    Hi Guys

Just wanted to thank you for taking the time and replying, I appreciate it. I'm not a big gamer might just get one strategy (even and old one) would it still play it ? Even if it doesn't I will still prob get it. Thanks again esp you fatmander.

you wouldnt be playing anything much newer and command and conquer generals or anything. Things like Supreme Commander and Company of Heroes are likely to be out of the question. Even if you could get them running I doubt it would be very smooth or enjoyable. A turn based game like Civ 4 would probably be good craic though - been meaning to try that one myself.

The hard disk is 500gb compared to 320 here, plus it comes with a usb mouse and probably other better stuff. I think i'm gonna get this laptop myself though.
