left my lap top with PC world for repair. the screen just died suddenly - turned it on one day and i couldn't see a thing. after closer scrutiny i could barely make it out. yes i tried the dimmer functions etc etc.

mr PC world tells me that i would need a new screen cost (gulp) E300 !!!
needless to say i WON'T be doing that!

is it true, is it true?? :(

march back and politely tell the guy he's a thieving asshole, and what you'd really like is a new Inverter. The Display itself should be fine.

Well, 5 years old. Hold that thought.*

An Inverter is a component that sits underneath the display, inside of the display lid casing. This piece regulates power flow to the LCD Panel and is pretty solely responsible for keeping it lit. They have an annoying tendancy to burn out. Mine has been flickering for months now, but its probably just a worn wire in my case, I can fix it my jiggling the lid.

*Theres a threshold at which it makes sense to drop money on fixing an old piece of hardware. I wish I bookmarked the chart, but I'd pull it up. For something that old, its almost not worth it though. But the piece should only cost around 50 to 60 and should cost more than 100 to have it installed. I may be pricing way high though.

    edit: chart
