what top to wear with purple skirt?

Hi all,

I bought this purple skirt from ASOS

I wanted to wear it to my christmas party next friday night.
i need advice on what top to wear with it? should i go for a black top or a white top or what colour?
Also would navy heels go with it or would they clash? Any idea what colour shoes to wear with it?
I was going to wear black barely there tights but would they go with navy shoes?
if you could reply and let me know how i could wear my new skirt that would be great.

White silk shirt, black shoes. If you have legs like the model in the picture I would love to volunteer to escort you to said party.

Keep it simple.

Black top. Black heels.

IMO Barely black tights won't go. Opaque or nude would be the way to go I think.

What type of xmas party is it? is it a sit down meal etc? or a party night?

if it's a party night then the top the girl has on in the pic would be perfect in black or maybe this

If it's more formal then maybe something like this (I have this, it's one of the best things I've ever bought!)

x2 to the veto on the barely there black tights. they make everyones legs look awful.

I would also concur with the keeping it simple. If youre going with tights make them opaque black. On top, a simple black or white blouse/tank. I also think gold jewellery (bangles and possibly some gold detailing on the shoes/waist belt if youre wearing one)

I'm not saying that top but one that kind of colour. Black blazer. Black shoes. Or navy if you prefer. Either would work.
Oh and I disagree if you like your legs low denier black tights are nice.

For some reason I'm not a fan of black and purple. A bold shade like that needs something softer IMHO. How about a cream or white colored silk top? More elegant, I think. Navy might look good or it might clash. Monitors vary, so I'm not sure. If you do go with the black top, don't do the black tights. I hate that kind of matching, where one color alternates with another, like black then purple then black. Pale gray or pewter is another possibilty, but I'd have to see the purple top in person to know if it would clash or not. On my screen, that skirt looks like it a shade of purple which has a lot of blue in it. It it is closer to blue, palest yellow or even pale gold or champagne could look good if those shades suit your complexion.

thank you all for your kind responses. they've been very helpful so far.
i've decided ill leave out the black barely there tights and just tan my legs instead.
I actualy don't have legs like the model in the picture, my legs are more dimply and heavier. i hope the skirt suits my not stick thin figure.

so let's say i go for navy shoes. do i rule out black tops or will i go with white instead? i don't have any cream tops. I have a long sleeve white top, a long sleeved black top. black string tops.
i also have a pair of grey coloured shoes if the navy don't go with black top.

i personally think that with such a structured skirt you should go with a more casual/less formal top, like the model in the picture. unless the event is likely to be really dressy. i wouldn't go with a string top as that would show too much, and i'd wear some kind of tights, either black or coloured. i got no problem with barely there tights. but i do have a problem with girls not wearing tights at this time of year, whenever i see it i shiver on their behalf.

i'd steer away from a black top too, think it would be too safe or too obvious u didn't know what to wear with the skirt. and i hate when people wear 1 bright coloured thing with black, like a bright pink skirt or whatever, usually makes the bright thing look cheaper and makes them look like they dont have much imagination.
if it were me i'd wear a loose white tank top or loose tshirt like the model on the site, and black barely there tights and blue shoes (like this not navy, more like electric blue. depends on what style your navy ones are. if they're a simple style like the picture then maybe ok). and maybe a black blazer (gotta think of the layers, it is like 1 degree these nights!).

btw, i think really bright blue and really electric purple can look great together. just fyi.

If you are going with the navy shoes, I'd definitely avoid the black top as well as black tights. Silver shoes could look good but not sure about matte gray.
