Maybe someone that has ESPN might be able to confirm the above but I shouldn't see why not - there have been no reports of any ESPN UK programming being blocked in ROI as of yet.

Even if so, there's normally been games on both 3e and Setanta Ireland during the group stage campaign. This week for example there were three live games between the two Irish stations (the Everton, Celtic, and Fulham games). Don't know what the arrangement will be for the knockout stages though.

It's something that's arisen on the Satellite Forum, ESPN block the signal to Ireland when Europa League games are on when you are watching on Satellite as they do not have the rights for here. I was just curious what happened with Chorus/NTL during this time. The picture quality on the stations mentioned leave a lot to be desired versus ESPN HD for example.

TV3 (shown on 3E) and Setanta have the rights do they not!

Have you contacted Sky, TV3 or Setanta about the picture?

Answer is Yes - ESPN europa league games are carried on UPC

Is this not In the same way that champions league games are shown on Sky/TV3/Setanta/UTV/RTE ?

I assume that they don't have the Irish rights and UPC should block their coverage. Sky could have those rights and UTV should possible be block but since they are FTA on Satellite their may be no need. Its a grey area.

No, it is not comparing like with like. HD picture has 4 times the definition of normal pictures.

Thanks for confirming that. It is different to the Champions League scenario, tv companies have paid exclusivity rights. I'm surprised Setanta have not complained to the regulator.

Setanta would be foolish imo to try and get the Champions League blocked on Sky Sports. Sky would simply bid for exclusive pay tv rights in Ireland leaving Setanta with nothing.

    Does UPC have HD ESPN?

When is Setanta HD starting up?

first i have heard of it, seems odd for a channel that are losing most of their games / bankrupt

I was being rhetorical again :( I suppose a better rhetorical question would have been:

    when is 3e going HD?

As do I. It was one of my reasons for unsubscribing from ESPN.

Really something that TV3 and Setanta should be worried about.
