    Hi all,

Just a quick one, friend has a Nissan Almera '97 with no NCT. And is worried whether to try... as it has a slightly cracked windscreen and no 5 gear.

Would it pass? barring a good service.

    TIA,
    M

Without a fifth gear it will fail outright. I would say the cracked windscreen would not pass muster either. Hope I'm wrong but I dobht it.

I'm not sure about 5th gear, do they run through all the gears maybe? But my last car passed the NCT with a pretty big crack in the front windscreen, about twice the size of a €2 coin! But it was in the middle of the window so it passed. Where is the crack?

Cheers for the replies lads, the 5th gear is the grey area.. would have thought they tested the transmission to its full extent.

As for the crack, drivers side and about 1/4ish of the screen (could be wrong)

Thinking its probably a lost cause, shame really the rest of the car is mint.

Dunno something tells me theres every chance he might gat away with fifth gear being missing, thats just a haunch though, not the gospel! Does the car actually go into fifth gear when stationary?

As for crack in windscreen does your friend by any chance have windscreen cover on his insurance policy? If so a replacement windscreen shouldn't cost him anything and won't affect his no claims bonus. Seen plenty of people at work getting their windcreens replaced by mobile units at my workplace over the years.

I'd risk it on the box. Only fifty squid but would get the windscreen beforehand

Re windscreen, see page 18 of the NCT manual.

Put it through. Should pass on the no fifth gear issue, and depending on the screen if thats all it fails on, the retest should just be a visual inspection once the screen was sorted.

The fifth gear should not be an issue.

If they even get as high as 3rd I would be surprised.
