We have set a limit of €50 (yes, FIVE 0!) seeing as we are both out of work at the mo and are extending the house and have bought a new car in the past few months.

I got a scrapbook today and put all the photoes and tickets and receipts etc of the past year, along with memories and lyrics, stuff like that.

    Scrapbook: €1.00
2 pairs of PJ bottoms €14.00 (on sale in topman)
2 pairs of jocks €7.00 (on sale in Jack&Jones)
    A keyring €4.00
    A leather bracelet €4.99 (H&M)
a dvd of shawshank(which i stole from my dad!!)
Mango body butter x 3 (on sale in pennys, €1.50)
Fixed one of his chains that I had brokedn € 5.00
A €10 deposit on a weekend away for his Birthday in Feb

    €47.49.... o baby Im good!

its funny, at first i was dreading it, because this time last year I spent a fortune on everyone at xmas... and this year I really had to think of stuff which were reasonably priced and that they would appreciate. just proves its not really all about the money

We're not getting each other gifts -- instead, I thought it'd be a nice tradition for us to start buying something nice for the house/something that we both can share each year.

This year, I'm thinking maybe a nice piece of art. (The flat-screen television is already on the schedule for next year!)

We're doing something similar, set a €50 quid limit on presents for each other and spent the remainder of what we would normally have spent on a sofa for a room that we've been meaning to do something with for ages.

I'm suspicious of being cyber-stalked so I can't post exactly what I got him here. It is in the moderator's forum though :P. I'm getting him one substantial thing, and then I keep seeing loads of tiny things he'd love, so I've been picking them up too.

Last year we agreed not to spend much on each other, but then he surprised me with a great gift that was way better than what I'd gotten him!

The past few years myself and the bf have been trying to outdo each other in the present stakes. Last yr I got him a MP3 player he wanted and he got me a camera. This yr though we're traveling and have very little spare cash but am keeping an eye out for something small that i can get him. Have suggested we take €30 each and go off and try get each other something small so we have something to open on Christmas day.

Havent set a limit with himself, but since Im a poor student this year hes not getting much! Got him 4gigs of ram, guitar hero game and a few bits like shirts, socks, jocks etc. that I know he needs. Ill feel so guilty on Xmas day as hes gotten me a 32G iTouch (even though he didnt have to pay for it, damn him and his perks in work!) and a disney couture tote bag Ive been lusting after for some time and possibly a ring since I found out hes designed one to propose with but really dont expect that until next year sometime!

Got him a few things, one of which being an Annual. :D

Don't make Victor annuals anymore so he'll have to settle for a QI one.

One of my gifts went badly wrong so I had to give up on it :(

I think that's what he's getting this year...I've dodged that bullet for a couple of birthdays and christmases now :(

I'll never get him to turn off the console at night, so my tv-watching days are probably numbered, but hey, he reeaaaaalllly wants one :o:)

He's getting a set of Sennheiser HD25's this year. He knows about it too cause he picked them out :pac:

I've had to stop trying to do surprises ever since the letdown that was a fluffy penguin.

Our presents this year are combined christmas/1 year anniversary present (stephen's day).
But seeing as we're both broke students, and I lost my job a while ago, we set a limit of €40.
So far I've gotten him a Will Ferrell boxset, that has his favourite ones in it, which was €14 for four dvds.
I'm either going to get him a new rockband game or something for his xbox, and a poster he saw a while ago that he wanted.

I really, really don't know! It's the first year that I'm totally stuck for something good to get him. I mean, there's plenty of things that I could get him if I was stuck, but before I've always managed to get him something unexpected that he totally loved, and I want to keep that up! Will be watching this thread for ideas.

It's our five year anniversary on New Years Eve too, but I think we'll just treat ourselves to a couple of nights in a nice hotel or something as our present to each other for that.

By the way ... how much do people usually spend on Christmas presents for the OH? It's just that when the OP was saying about a limit of €50 ... we don't usually set limits, we just spend what we can afford, even if that means one of us ends up spending a bit more than the other. But we've often gotten each other birthday presents or Christmas presents for €50 or less. I'd say the most we've ever spend any year on each other would have been about €200-€300; definitely no more than that. And that would have been for big stuff like each others 21sts.

I'd say I can afford to spend about €100 on him this year .... just have to decide what to get him though!!!

Going against the general theme of this thread... We spend a few hundred on each other at Xmas. We're by no means wealthy, he's a student, but it's just our thing. Part of what he is getting is cash towards some photo equipment he wants, a lens and a flash. We're going to NYC next month so he's spending it there. There will be some presents under the tree too to make the 25th special.

I think I'm going to go with some bathroom speakers for his mp3 player, he likes to rock out in the shower, but does not seem to get the concept that electricity in the bathroom is dangerous

I sing, so I recorded an acoustic version of Guns n' Roses "Don't Cry" in a local recording studio. One of "our" songs that has romantic memories associated with it. Dad's a photographer, will have him take some nice photos of me and choose one for the cover of said CD. Also got him a lovely jumper and shirt in River Island, iTrip for his car, Thinsulate gloves, vintage AC/DC tshirt, silly Christmas bauble that says "I love Ireland" on it (he's very patriotic and loves his soccer), and a Christmassy red cashmere scarf.
