Folks, Sister avoided a child running out in front of her recently, but scraped the side of a car that was parked on side of road. (rear bumper, and one side panel).
I asked the person 2 get 2 quotes. First quote was exorborant, so asked her to go to someone else. waited 5 weeks, no reply. So I rang her again, she said she was really really busy, so i suggested a local panel beater to look at it. She said fine. He came back to me wiht a more reasonable quote. So i rang her and said, "john" will be out next week to do that car. She said, can u talk to my husband. He didnt want John to fix it, he wanted "another quote" i said ..hey this is going on now 6 weeks, i gave u enough time etc etc. Then he said, give me the money for what John quoted for. I rang John up. John explained he noticed a lot more damage to front and side of car, looked keyed, and he reckons the original quoite was to fix what my wife damaged plus this. I was going to just pay him, but now my head is telling me ,no, jsut fix what she damaged...what u think????!! I dont even know now, is the damage they are claiming was caused by my sister...actuall all caused by her.

it was a genuine accident, so fair play to your wife for missing the kid. Could have being a lot worse.

but hey just pay for the damage your wife caused. i dont see why you should have to pay for their crap.

if you must bring the gardai into this and they will sort it out (even if it was 6 weeks the damage is still there)

then again if all they have is your number and no other details just tell them to take a hike and never get in contact with them again

The gardai will not get involved in this, its a civil matter, not a criminal one. If you think they're trying to pull a fast one, get an independant motor assessor out to look at the car and decide what damage was caused by your wife and which is older and take it from there.

Otherwise, just go through your insurance company

Thanks folks. She wants to fix what she damaged, no doubt. Its being dubious from the start. I think what well do now, is concentrate solely on the damage caused and focus on fixing it. the other damage, tehy should resolve themselves, not my business.

Ugh, what a great contribution, how about you just don't post anything unless it's relevant to the thread? K?

Perhaps I'm looking at it totally incorrectly but as in opening post

    What difference does it make?
Now let's get back on topic or i'll start handing out infractions.

Op don't forget it's a pain is the ass having to go around and get quotes. It can take up a lot of time. Some palaces won't give you a quote unless you pay a deposit. Why should the person who did nothing wrong have to go to the time and effort to get quotes to suit you.

Technically they could go to any main dealer get the job done and courtesy car, just contact your sisters insurance company who will pay up.

Ok, wasn't trying to be smart or anything, was just attempting to point out posting error to OP. He appears to be speaking hypothetically in the post and perhaps thats reason for error.

tred perhaps this is the reason its more desireable to call the Guards following even these seemingly small incidents but hindsight is a great thing! Also though in my experience body shops can vary absolutely enormously in the quotes they give you to repair the same damage so perhaps they are both quoting for repair of the same damage as in the damage your sister caused.

It seems other party are somewhat laid back about the whole thing from your post. Are they totally intent on pursuing it? Do they have your sisters insurance details. A long shot but they might just go away?

Is John the panel beater you recommended? If he is and this is all the money he is looking for then give him it and get him to sign something to say you paid for the accident.

He doesn't have to get the car fixed if he doesn't want but is entitled to compensation for the damage caused.

My reading of this is: the woman's husband asked you to pay the amount that John quoted. John only quoted for the damage your sister caused.

I can't see a problem with that?

OP either take it to your insurance company or pay for the damage the driver of the car caused. If the car was previously keyed that's irrelevant, the damaged area has to be repaired.
