I've been offered a 98 HR-V for just over a thousand euro. It sounds a bit too good to be true anyone here have any horror stories about these or know what I should look out for? The only thing I've heard give trouble are the auto boxes and the manual can get kinda clunky if the transmission fluids not changed

if it has an NCT and low mileage then 1000 is cheap. Without those 2, I as a motor dealer would expect to pay 500 for it. Re problems, Honda parts are dear - pay a mechanic 100 to check the car out, if he's happy then go buy it!

As above, for a run down on the good and bad see http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/index.htm?md=141

Honda dealer will cost you for any work, labour rate is high, so a good independent will be worth finding.

Looks like it was too good to be through. When I rang the chap and started asking questions about trans. fluid etc being changed with regular services and if the bushes were ever looked at/changed he start changing his tune and told me I'd be better off finding another that the one he has aint great

Auto boxes need fluid changes on time (~50k miles) or they will break, that's almost guaranteed. Manuals start to get sticky around 100k miles if the oil hasn't been changed. Not a biggie tho as the manuals never fail, and the oil is cheap.

Trailing arm bushes wear out in all the models with double wishbone rear suspensions, but I don't know if this applies to the HRV. Again not a biggie when they do tho. Typically €100 for parts and labour.

Go look at it. If it's untidy it's untidy.
