I just got Miroslav philharmonic as part of the latest IK Multimedia 4 for 1 deal.

It sounds pretty good to me as it's actual samples of an orchestra. It was made a good few years ago though so isn't cutting edge.

I've heard good things about East West Strings but I think they are a bit pricey.

As a balance between cost and quality, Garritan Personal Orchestra is very good

If money isn't an issue check out Vienna Instruments, i think its the daddy of them all. Its unbelivable, check out stravinskys rite of spring

I still can't believe how good it is. More of a dream world option but its worth looking at even just to appreciate it

I'm with Rock on Miroslav... I got it as part of a deal last year & I think it's great. I love the cellos... they're yummy... kinda like Purple Cadbury's Roses chocolates

Garritan personal sounds a bit "soft" to me, it's the attack. The bundled strings with Kontakt are, surprisingly, wonderful. I'd love to own one of the expensive ones- Vienna, Siedlazik, Miroslav etc. :)

Doesnt Kontakt 4 come with some variation of the Vienna library?

    I don't know. I'm still using Kontakt 2.

    Hi,

I started with EWQL Silver, it was ok but was washed in a cheap sounding verb...

moved to Miroslav philharmonik and I think its alot better....

VSL is the big boy of it all and for about 6k you can get a great setup, personally I only have the strings but they are priceless sounding.

    good luck

    Ed

Come to think of it, much as I like the IK stuff (I have Miroslav, both T-Racks & CSR plus various Amplitubes)... one thing I would say is that I have problems with the authorisations nearly every time I switch Pro Tools on. Constantly have to re-authorise the plug-ins... it's a real PITA
