i have those yellow slip things to hand in every week, i got a letter sayin i had to have all the december ones handed in in advance by 14th december. the way i work i wouldnt be able to know that far in advance the days i would work so what do you think would happen if i said workin one day a week ,and then ended up doin say two days? do you think if they found out id be in trouble? or what if it was the other way around what if i put it down as one day a week but there is a week or two where i dont get any hours at all? (either of these situations could happen as i said my work is very varied every week and my boss wouldnt be able to tell me this far ahead in advance!)

Figure out an average of the days you work, and reduce them a bit.

At the end of the day, if you get a little extra from SW then that's all good and well. If you're feeling honest you can go to your local office and return the excess paid after December.

However, I certainly would not risk shooting myself in the foot and leaving my self losing out on money in the run up to Christmas.

    .

Not great advice - social welfare have started to do audits with employers and checking results against the self certified casual dockets. Quite a number of people have been caught giving deliberate wrong information. Your case is different in that you genuinely are unsure of your work pattern. The other advice you were given is correct - if you work on average 3 days a week then fill in your docket for 3 days. Just go with the average. If it is different to that, an amended docket can be submitted at any time.

Submit your forms for December with 3 days of non-work.
If you then end up getting overpaid, simply mark one of the days in january to sort out the difference.

Alternatively, just ring up the social welfare in January, tell them you were overpaid and they will sort it out for you.

I'd add a note on the end saying "Estimated in advance" as well, and hang on to the letter for the next 12 months to be safe.
