Just noticed that the screen resolution on RTE1, TV3, TG4 and the RTENL testcard has been reduced to 544x576 - Greystones relay.

    At the moment (15:45) RTE2 is 704x576.

This has been happening on and off for the last while. Couldn't watch Late Late Toy Show on the projector - was like a bad download!

They seem to be passing the 704X576 between the channels. Hope to God thay are just doing tests to realise that it looks awful and will settle on the 704 for "real" transmission :)

ITV on satellite generally uses the reduced width resolution of 544 and it looks pretty poor, although ITV West Country uses 704 because it is used to feed a local terrestrial transmitter, I understand. BBC generally uses 720 but does restrict the bitrate on some regions (including BBC London).

I don't know why RTENL would be reducing the resolution, though. They are hardly stuck for bandwidth at the moment and, the way things are going, they are hardly likely to be troubled with a flood of other channels on the muxes:rolleyes:

I wonder if anyone from RTENL reads these threads?

If so, people posting about it can only be helpful when they're finished "testing"

If they are reading, please activate all 4 MUX's on Clermont like they are with the other transmitters so I can finally pick up the trial! :D

WHy BBC London given that its the most populated region (and the default region for cardless digiboxes)

The multiplex that BBC1 London is on also has BBC2, BBC3, BBC4 and Channel 5 plus a test channel. It may be that the mux is full and that the bit rate is throttled on that particular channel. It's useful for Freesat PVRs (Humax Foxsat) as you can record several programmes at once without needing a second tuner feed.
