Dont tell me, best bull was from the Blakestown herd....was the case 2 years ago anyway. Everytime I look through the Charolaois reports, theres a Blakestown bull with top price at some sale or another. That day I was there he got a round of applause after getting the top price.
The bull was by Blakestown Seigneur and I remember him (Mr McCabe) saying that the bull could be safely used on heifers. He was a big heavy boned bull, lovely looking animal. I looked up Seigneurs data on www.icbf.com and yes calving diff of only 12.7% (aug 2009).
He had a big line up at the ploughing afew years back also. Very impressive herd.

To put it mildly. He has some serious money behind him from other interests, but IMHO he has the best Charolais herd in the country.

Ya, you're right, in the bottom 5% of the breed. CF52 is 11.3%, so around 11% was what I had in my head as the norm for the better bulls.
His Beef Carcase is in the top 3% of the breed, so if you don't mind the hard calving, worth it.

Oh yeah definately if you have big well fleshed c but i think most farmers would rather an easy calving bull than a higher than average beef carcass...i know i would

Does anyone know what age Patsy McCabe's bull was and what he sold him for? Had he any other bull there or just the one?

Ya that's what I was thinking!

He sells most at private dispersal sales now and out of yard as far as I was aware.

Somebody mentioned him though and I assummed they were still talking about the tread topic, ie. Ennis charolais sale!
