    Hi,

Had a quick search there and can't find what i'm looking for,

We have sky in the home, paying a monthly subscription,

What i'm wondering is if i get another sky box and put it in the bedroom, is it possible to use this box as a FTA box if i wire to the dish,

Pretty much the same set up as the box with the subscription, but it just wont have a card.

Any advice? is this possible? thanks

Might be better to go with a freesat box in the second room, you can still use the same dish and if you have sky + or sky hd you will already have a quad lnb which means you just need cable and 2 F connectors.

if you dont have sky+ already, why not upgrade your main TV to sky + and then use the 'old' box, fta in the 2nd. location.....

Was always thinking of doing this alright, is it completely legal yeah?

Whats the installation like? is it as simple as using a splitter on the sky feed cable?

howver you would require a new cable from the dish to the new location...you cannot 'split' satellite signals.

    Okay sounds good,

so is there spare sockets or connectors by the dish?

if there is only a single LNB on your dish, you would need to change this for a quad and then run the new cable(s)

    Ah ok,

So Quad lnb is a 4 ouptut socket?

Had sky installed 2 years ago, so hopefully it has one,

    would i receive rte1, rte2, tv3, anf tg4 without a card?

If its just a standard Sky box you got installed initially its unlikely there is a quad LNB (4 outputs) on the dish so you'll have to replace the existing single LNB with a quad before you go any further.
No, the Irish channels are not available on FTA satellite and highly unlikely they ever will be, they have an exclusive contract with Sky for Satellite and there would also be rights issues with programme makers should it ever go FTA. An aerial is your only option really, depending on your location an indoor one might do the job.
