Monday or Tuesday off?

Tuesday is the 8th but I'm hearing that we are being given the Monday instead of Tuesday off? Is this true? I really hope it is!

The 8th of December is a church holiday, marks the official beginning of Christmas!

One of my lecturers told me the other day that its Monday off, cos if it was Tuesday off then nobody would turn up on the Monday! Which is probably true
