Looking at all the floods on the news it looks like theres going to be a good thousand or more cars wrote off with flood damage. Will these cars be auctioned off by insurers or what will become of them?

    Jesus god i hope not!
Most of them will never be fit for use again id imagine, the electrics will be shot!
So to sell them on would be an awful plan, need car parts/panels there will be plenty around!

However saying that you can imagine them being fixed and sold on as with no proper insurance database in this country you'll never know what was written off or not!

Flooded cars aside, what I don't get is why insurance companies would pay out for people who deliberately drive through water. Do they?

    It's a car numb-skull, not a boat!

I know someone who got a cheap 328 with the plan to put it back on the road.

I once drove a Micra into the bog. Dried it out removed the underlay and drove it for another two years. (Not may electrics there/ simpler times)

Some will make it back on to the road the cast majority will be broken for parts.

I bought and repaired a couple a few years back. Its a big enough job and I personally didnt touch any of them with the engines shot only electrics--I got everything from a used parts place in the UK--all the modules, wiring loom and carpets.

You really wont make any money on them but if youre prepared to drive one (and put the time in to get it right)you might get a good deal.

Loads will end up being repaired. It hard to tell flood damage in a car until a few months/years down the line when they start rusting in really unusual places like seat bolts etc!

Insurance company wrote off my 08 citroen c-crosser yesterday due to flood damage. Dealer wants it for parts. They're having none of it though. It'll be lifted and crushed when the claim is settled.

I can't take take any credit for this though as it was my brother who spotted it and the fact that it's not front-engined.
Dunno how I missed this considering it is one of my dream cars!

Let your car dry out for a few days and then spray the electrics with moisture repellant spray and it will be grand. :)

There isn't many intelligent decisions that end in an insurance claim.
