    Hi Guys,

Quick Question. If you put a deposit on a ring but see a ring that you like elsewhere - are you entitled to the deposit back.

In my case it is around a €300 deposit I paid.

    Rgds,

I'd doubt it, but definitely not if you tell them you found "a ring that you like elsewhere"!!
I know a guy who ended up with a silly amount of credit for a jewellers shop after trying to return the ring when it all went pear-shaped. Everyone got watches that Christmas! :p
You could probably transfer the deposit to another ring in the shop or see if they can get one made up that's similar to what you want now?

I doubt you will get the deposit back - especially if its been more than a week.
Why not get the details of the ring you like - unless it is a specific handcrafted one most jewellers can get the same stock, so the jeweller you have the deposit with would probably be happy to try and get you the same ring. If they can't get it they may even, as said above be able to make it for you.

I am sure they would try - sure they could keep your €300 and loose your custom, or they could transfer the deposit, source the same ring for you, and possibly make a lot more than €300, plus the further sales potential of a wedding ring, regular cleaning etc....

No by paying a deposit you have entered a contract to buy the ring, however saying that it depends on how you approach the idea of a refund with the vendor. I as a business man would refund out of goodwill depending on A. who it was and are they a regular customer and will they buy again. If however i dont know you from Adam then it would be tough luck. You could suggest the vendor refund you the deposit less a small administrative fee to cover their costs. This may work depending on how you approach it. Give the reason that due to a change in your financial circumstances etc.,---
    Good luck!

I'd say no because that what a deposit is but you can ask nicely and you never know your luck. you might be able to get store credit or something back.
