Hi i have been on Job seekers allowance since oct '08 , I was self employed b4 that . I am getting €247 p/w and i am means tested for €144 based on my wifes earnings, (we have 2 kids) .
My wife's take home pay was €400 p/w , but she is now getting cut to a 3 day wk.
    Q. What are our options.
    Q. Is my wife able to claim Benefit( if so how much)
    Q. Am i allowed to claim some of my own back that im being means tested for

I would appreciate any info on this ,Thank you

    Hi laminated

There are a few different options here, but overall you should get an increased payment.

    1) You are re-assessed for Jobseeker's Allowance, with your wife's reduced means taken into account.
    2) Your wife claims Jobseeker's Benefit for the family, with you as a "qualified adult".
    3) You claim Jobseeker's Allowance and your wife claims Jobseeker's Benefit (assuming she meets the conditions). In this case your means for JA would be halved and the increase for your children would be divided between the two payments.

It will be necessary for your Social Welfare Local Office to do the calculations to find out which combination of payments is most to your advantage. It is likely to be either option 1 or option 3.
