I was at todays match in croker and I have to say for atmosphere it was pretty f***ing amazing. Thought we were the deserved winners and could have but up a few more scores if we had given the ball out to the back line a bit more. What really pisses me off though is the incestous amount of bull**** regarding the result. South Africa played a full strength team and yet almost every newspaper and pundit, along with their coach fails to recognise that we have beaten the world champions. "They are coming out of a long season", and what about the irish players, 6 nations, heineken cup, magners league, lions tests, it wasn't exactly a walk in the park for us either. It seems the SH and the lavatory rolls we call newspapers will always be reluctant to give us what is due, some recognition.

I dont have much time for the Boks to be honest. They come across as very arrogant. The comments made before the Fiji Quarter Final in 2007 were stupid and disrespectful of their opponents and they were nearly made to eat their words.

I totally agree. But for some dirty play (nearly decapitating Tommy Bowe) it coulda been more. Our players have had a very tough and long season too and against a good strength SA team we were better. Give the lads the praise they deserve. Only one of 2 teams unbeaten in the autumn series (with the All Blacks) and the only international team unbeaten all year. Well done Ireland :)

I agree to some extent but I'm quite happy for them to continue to underestimate us and let us slip under the radar continuously improving. We'll only make a real statement of intent down south if we can win away to one of the big three.

hmmm i havent read any of todays (sundays) newpapers so cant commen on them.

i do always feel at our stage in the new rugby world (i.e. since the game went pro) that sometimes our best chance of beating a southern hemisphere, nz in particular, are in the june series of games.

for todays game they came close to winning themselves, the game ended in our own half with us defending close to our own line.

people today have to remember that ireland beating any southern hemisphere team used to be a huge thing, let alone not losing to 2 trinations teams in an autumn series.

SA have come from a long season, but the team they put out today was as close to full strength as could be, lacking bakkies botha, the full back steyn - even though kirchner played better that ive ever seen steyn play - so it was a great win by my standards.

the next stage for ireland is to win away from home and beat the all blacks.

in summary today was a good win!!!!!!

ah just ignored the excuses they weren't too interested in our moaning about refereee decisions or the fact players were coming off long seasons when they beat us in Lions tests.

And whatever you do never pay any attention to their coach he is the rugby equivalent of Raymond Domenech.

It's just a pity we're not getting a shot at the All Blacks next week that would be some game.

They are after a long season and they've a fair share of injuries but as crybaby said, they weren't highlighting that during the lions test. Of course it's harder being a touring side but when they were at home, they were happy to take the plaudits as world's best.

IN fairness any team missing players of the calibre of bakkies botha and pierre spies in their pack is going to be weakened. go back a few autumn's to the season where both BOD and POC were injured for us and people were calling for EOS's head at the time, think we then won the triple crown the following spring.
still, SA are one team who are bad winners and even worse losers and i'm delighted we stuffed them yesterday plus the fact they were somewhat weakened was certainly made up by an untypically poor performance by referee and touch judges.

We were missing Horan, Jennings, Leamy, Fitz, Best and lost Ferris throughout the game. We also had an out-half with 2 caps.

Not like we were at our full potential either....

Don't think meeting the All Blacks right now would be advisable - didn't you see yesterday's match against France? A massacre 39-12 of the much vaunted French team. This All Black team has gone through a bad patch (i.e. the best chance NH teams had of beating them) and are definitely on the way back again.

Nah. The AB's had an awesome day but France played right into their hands. After beating SA, they assumed that if they turned up and played their open expansive game, they'd win easily enough.

Never underestimate the ability of the French to follow up an amazing performance with a total stinker - remember the last world cup?

I'm not saying we'd beat them but we'd have more tactical cop on than the French and definitely wouldn't concede 6 tries.

The irony is that they (some of them) were calling us whinging Irish because of what happened on the lions tour.
