12 Volt Electric Fence

Hi

Anybody know where I could buy high energy 12 Volt Electric Fence.
Has to be rated up around 8 or 10 Joules.
Has to be 12V because no access to mains.
I have tried all the local suppliers in the west
but the 12V models they have are all too low powered.
I need to cover about 100 acres, a couple of miles of line
through some vegetation.
The last one I had was home built by somebody
who is not available to make another at present.
West of Ireland if possible.

I dont think you will get a 12v that size, I bought the biggest Forcefield one a few years ago and that was only 1 joule.

im just thinking out loud here but would it be possible to get a mains fencer, use a inverter to convert from 12volt to 240 volt and use a 12 volt tractor battery to keep it powered?

there is another thread on here discussing solar pannels charging batteries to power fencers.

I cant see why the inverter shouldnt work as they consume very little power.

No doubt there is someone out there with a better knowledge of electricity to say if this is a runner or not.

Thanks for both replies.
I don't have much faith in the solar panels.
I just don't think they can supply enough power,
particularly in winter time.

I hadn't thought about using an inverter.
That could be an excellent idea.
I can't see any pitfalls yet.
I already have a good mains unit.
Keeping the whole lot dry might be a problem
but I'll work around it.
Are those inverters good for 24/7 operation?

Any other ideas?
The high power 12V units were available before
and are available in other countries.
Can't see why there aren't any available here.

Look at www.lacme.com
I bought a 12v 1 joule model in 07, its been a great suscess on 40acres out farm (7 paddocks with high tensile wire), full power everywhere and keeps the dirt down, the model i got was 190 inc vat but they have a 4 joule model, which i reckon would handle 100 acres.

have you enquired about a fence connection from ESB maybe costly but i believe there is no charge to run it.
worth looking into.

I had a 1.4 joule forcefield on 90acres until some little knacker stole it last autumn! It was ok but everything needed to be very clean all the time as I have about 25 paddocks there. Was pricing a pel at ploughing last year. Can't remember exact price or spec but something around 900 euro for 8 or 10 joule but a solar panel was a must which was what was making it so expensive.
