    Hello All

I am interested in buying some agricultural land but haven't been able to find much for sale online. If there is anyone out there who knows a little bit about the value for money in Ireland compared with say the UK or elsewhere.

I mean there is an Irish cultural obsession with land which (may) drive prices up more than need be.

    Thanks

absolutley , most irish people would beg , borrow ,steal or drowned thier own children before they would sell the family farm , therefore only a tiny amount of land comes on the market for sale each year in this country and while it has halved in value in the past two years , its still very expensive by international comparrisons

I am fairly flexible in where I am interested in buying. That's why I asked in relation to the UK and Ireland or elsewhere. It is an investment.

What I am looking for is a response from someone who knows the markets. I want a sort of feel for the price per acre.

percentage wise , ireland has less good quality land than the uk , our land is considerabley wetter and the clay is considerabley more peaty

I think 7.5k to 8k an acre is about right (Might be wrong)

It would depend on lot size, quality of the land and location, location, location!

Land is way, way overvalued in this country. A old man i knew once said that no-one should pay any more for an acre of land than the price of two cattle!

How about 22 acres + new e40,000 hayshed + out-offices in need of repair with stone walls + 3 bed bungalow, yard located down a lane and fields have road frontage? Located in Kildare. Sold at auction within last 2 weeks for........ e220,000!

€10,000 an acre. Still too dear at that money. I know of a couple of places coming on the market after Christmas at around €6,500/acre, which is starting to get a bit more realistic. There'll be lots of land for sale in the next 12 months, a lot of people are under serious financial pressure.

Good quality land in the UK is averaging £6-7K sterling, which is about €6,600 - €7,700. You'll buy plenty of land here at that kind of money next year. Besides, land in the UK is in a different country. I know a couple of people who sold farms here and bought in England, things didn't work out as well as they'd expected. The locals weren't exactly thrilled at foreigners buying land, no more than the average farmer here wouldn't be impressed by an Englishman buying the farm next door.
