Well I'm a regular of many baords throughout the net with boards.ie being one of the latest i've come to frequent.

I was reading this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055748113&page=2

and it got me thinking how other boards would go about making money and how it could be implemented here, and a system one or two others use struck me, Boards.ie could set up an 18+ adult forum maybe requiring a unique subscription to gain access.

I suppose there is downsides to this so far as it could be construed that this will cause a grittier lower tone for the whole of boards.ie.

Anyway, I thought it worth a mention.

Sex and sexuality is a place for advice and talking about experiences with specific rules agasint the content which would be found in the forum I mentioned above:)

Oh you are looking for a porn forum, thats what you mean by "adult".
Never gonna happen, there is plenty of pron sites on the net boards.ie will never be one of them.

Never said I wanted it. Was suggesting a way to increase revenue.

I had an idea which I thought I'd make in case it could better the financial situation of boards.ie, I made my suggestion through the appropriate channel.

I also stated the pros and con, so get off your high horse.

I am not on a high horse, one of the stipulations which was put in place for there to eve be a sex & sexuality forum that it was not to have porn.

The site rules and policies are that there is never to be a porn forum.

It has come up time and time and again and always has gotten the same answer that boards.ie is not that type of site and does not want to have that type of content even in it's restricted access forum and it's private forums.

Making money through porn subscriptions requires a very specific jump in consciousness/ethics.

Even if a person themselves has no feelings one way or the other about porn, providing such a service on boards creates an impression about boards and also introduces some legal implications.

It wouldn't be long before filters across the web are blocking boards because of "pornographic content" and porn then becomes an increasingly core part of the revenue and spreads. Like a virus.

Porn is not a topic of discussion. It's a service.

(slightly more serious answer to the OP)...

We do have an "adult" forum about Sex and Sexuality, its a place for the healthy discussion of sex between consenting adults. Its not really a money maker per se, its something we put behind a financial contract because we want to be sure the readers are 18+, cos some of the threads have been a bit... well, frank.

Porn would attract precious enough revenue. From what Ive read porn is in freefall revenue wise. You'd make more moola selling dodgy timeshare schemes I reckon..

It never fails to amaze me that people are actually incapable of reading.

Yeah, to be fair to the OP he wasnt actually suggesting a Porn forum and in fact, he was basically suggesting the S&S forum we already have...

Excuse me while I "work it" ... oh yeah.

And to be fair to me I wasn't actually responding to the OP. I was responding to the discussion of revenue from porn. My ability to read is irrelevant here. :)

I never fails to amaze me that people are actually willing to pay for music / movies / tv boxsets / computer games / software when they're freely available online.

To take from the glibness of that, there are other factors at work, ranging from people's inability to use computers to a sufficient level to the fact that not everything a consumer wants is available online for this.

Plus, how long do you think porn would continue to be produced if nobody paid for it? It's a business after all...
