hey, am in the market to buy a passat red (di) and after looking up cars on done deal, carzone etc, and running them through (mywheels.ie) ive noticed that a god awful lot of the cars that have the red di badge on them are infact 100bhp models, they even have the red di engine covers lol, anyways, whats everyones opinions on the red (di) model?

Badges mean nothing, dealers and prob owners add them willy-nilly. Check the data sticker on the boot floor, the engine power will be stated in kw, convert this to bhp and you will know for sure.

see, thing is, i emailed one guy who had one advertised as a 130bhp red di model, i ran a check on his reg on mywheels.ie. and it says that it was the 100bhp base model, i emailed him, he said he was sick of timewasters and would let the car go cheap, i dont think he realised that when people came out to testdrive the car that they werent going to notice the lack of a good 30bhp lol

true but when i had my suspicions about it, i emailed him asking "is it the 130bhp model" and his responce was " the garage sold me it as one but im not sure" put that responce and the advert of him saying in the title "£no more timewasters" together and ya get a good conclusion lol

A lot of people prob wouldn't notice the difference between them. I wonder was the seller trying to pull a fast one too ;)

The difference between the 130 and the 100 is huge, that wouldnt put me off buying a genuine 100bhp though. I'd prefer the higher powered one as its more fun and remapped they are brisk through the gears without a doubt.

ah i know the statistics but im just wondering would a car that was a red (di) drive exactally the same as a remapped one, same pickup in accelearation and such?

aren't the 130s 6 speed on the facelifted Passat?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,594 ✭✭✭tossy

A remapped 100pd wouldn't compare to a 130pd in any way.the 6 speed box makes a huge difference, plus any 130 i've ever seen on a dyno was putting out 150-ish standard,it's the same for most VAG TDI engines.

99% of the 130s are 6 speed but there area few 5 speed ones knocking around (albeit rare)

Pay no attention to badges - data sticker is your only man.

yea i think ill just go for the red di model instead of remapping a 100bhp model, it just makes me sick seeing so many people putting the red di badge on the car acting like they never knew lol

100bhp models were sold new with red DI badges. it's not the owners badging them up.

Many dealers will claim or honestly don't know what power output the car has either. They will advertise it as they see it or how they bought it.

So just check the sticker in the boot for the KW rating. Most are quite apologetic or embarrassed when they find out the real power output.

Hey, Good posts here. I currently have a 1.8T 02 model, Auto that I am currently selling. I was told its a rare enough car and that its 150bhp.

Where do I look to confirm this??

As I mentioned I am selling it and looking to get the 130BHP Diesel engine similiar year.

    Cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭BlackWizard

    I thought all the 1.8t where 150bhp?

You could try look at the sticker in the spare wheel well. It's got details on the engine power rating in KW. The TDi cars have them.

How come you are swapping it for the TDI?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 475 ✭✭potsy11

It's auto and my new job has me doing lots of city miles. Gulp gulp gulp. It's a pity because I love rhe car. Full leather interior and all the extras.
