DART ticket machines now smart-card ready?

As I bought my ticket this morning in Clontarf Road DART station, I noticed that the UI has changed on the screens: the first screen now gives an option between buying a ticket, or adding money to your smartcard.

I can't find anything online about the launch of DART smartcards, other than that "The next step will be the launch by Irish Rail of an interim smart card scheme from late this summer. This smart card will offer a number of ticket products to be announced at the time of launch."

    Is this happening soon?

There is a trial proposed first, then it will be annual ticket holders, then everything else.

The Malahide Viaduct delayed the trial as part of the network was cut off and couldn't be tested.
