my test is on tues, and ive just had it at the garage for a checkup. he said the emmisions are high but he put a can of something into the tank!
but is there anything i can do myself do make sure the emmisions are lower?

Make sure the engine is warm and you bring the car on a good drive before the test. The cat and also the lambda sensor, these don't start working until they are hot.

Not sure if its true but apparenlty if you drive in low gear to the test with the revs fairly high it should clean out you emmisions for a short time. I think there are certain oils that help to clean the engine.

I have a 5 speed 1990 Vectra diesel and before I go to the NCT I drive in fourth gear doing around 120 kmph on the motorway for a few k just to clean it out. Seems to work as I've never had a mention over my emissions.

    Good luck.

Did your mechanic examine why the emissions were high or and if so did they remedy the cause?

Drive it hard on the way to the test if you think it might be borderline. Run it through, if it fails, gets someone who know what they are doing re emissions to sort it.
