Social Awkwardness

This is more an observation/curiosity than a problem (I guess). I've noticed something strange about myself that's been there a long time, years, but only really thought about it recently. When I watch TV or Movies, When it gets to a moment of social awkwardness (rejection, embarrassment, things like that) I actually can't watch. If it's a TV show I'll switch to another channel, if I'm watching a DVD I'll fast forward past it. I guess it ties in to me not being at all comfortable with social situations, I just thought it was an odd side-effect. Anyone else like this? Anyone else this affected by even fictional occurrences of social situations?

I think that's not that uncommon. I couldn't watch Mr. Bean as a child because of this (still can't!). As to whether it's a trait of people who aren't all that comfortable in social situations (and I'm not) or just that some people don't like watching other people embarrass themselves, I can't tell. v:ov

Oh yes. Me and almost everyone I know. It's really not that unusual.

Its known as Empathy, basically you feel what others feel. So if you see someone feeling embarrassed you feel embarrassed along with them.
Sympathy essentially implies a feeling of recognition of another's suffering while empathy is actually sharing another's suffering, if only briefly. Empathy is often characterized as the ability to "put oneself into another's shoes".

    I get that too.

Me too ,in fact I can't watch people suffer on tV.I dont watch news ever.

I can also pick up changes in peoples demenour even its not obvious .I can also tell when a woman is pregnant or are revealing some news long before its common news. I can also tell sneaky and bad people long before it becomes evident. I can tell when people are suffering inside and pretending that everything is ok.

Its weird and hard to comprehend ,and deal with. Buts its all good.:)

The strange thing is I do watch the news and don't feel anything for the people in the stories...
