New Race/ Training Tyres

Just got my new Dura Ace 7850 CL wheels from CRC. I dont plan on using them till the new year. But once the winter is over i will use them for racing, sportives and everyday training.

Just wondering what peoples opinion are on the best tyres for this kind of usage are. I was looking at Conti GP4000S, the Attack/ Force combi or the Schwalbe Ultremo, the slick compound of the Schwalbe Ultremo puts me off though considering the amount of rain we get here.

    Any suggestions

Tread does absolutely nothing for wet grip, indeed a slick tyre will have marginally better grip all things being equal (which they will not be.) Both Schwalbe Ultremos and Conti GP4000S are good tyres but I would give the edge to the Ultremos. I'd still be a bit wary of them though with the recall so GP4000S might get the edge.

Picked up 2 GP4000S tyres the other day but yet to use them. They def feel sticky compared to the other tyres I've got (Kenda and Gatorskins) and I'd say they'd wear quicker, but should be better in the corners.

Just went out on my new conti 4000s for the first time today.
l must say l was impressed with them, slick and grippy on a damp road.
l found they spun quicker with less resistance than my old stock michelins.
l also thought the bike was more responsive and "pointy" when steering but maybe l'm imagining that bit! :)

Conti GP4000S are what use and I like a lot. Not too expensive either.

Not necessarily imagining, good tyres make a phenomenal difference to a bike.

They're a good bit cheaper at Total Cycling.

Cheapest around is http://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;navigation=1;product=5032;pid=35;group=31;menuid1=4;menuid2=22 if you are buying other stuff. Their shipping is 10Euro to Ireland. Tyres are 27.90

    Otherwise, http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/road-bike-tyres/continental-4000s-tyres.html have them for 30Euro + 5 shipping.

Slick tyres will always present a tradeoff between grip and longevity. I always go for the grippiest softest tyre. Works out more expensive but I consider this a good investment. A broken collarbone is a lot more costly than a soft compound tyre.:)

GP4000s are a great tyre imo.

Tried a bunch of different tires and for the last 2.5 years have stuck to Conti GP4000s tires. Light, great durability and good grip.

I hear lots of good things about the Schwalbes too but I have not used them enought to have a proper opinion.
