To me it's like a Qashqai, only worse looking and with no 7 seat or 4WD option.

While there were a number of positive references, I'm surprised somewhat at some of the poor reviews for this model. These were taken from page 1 of a google for Peugeot 3008:
Despite its SUV billing, the model isn’t four-wheel drive. To improve all-terrain ability, there’s optional Grip Control, but the new car isn’t really suited to off-roading. Under the bonnet, buyers can choose from normally aspirated and turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engines, plus 1.6 and 2.0-litre diesels. A hybrid arrives in a few years.

We drove the 1.6 HDi. It’s gruff but frugal, returning 55mpg. Despite its tall stance, the car doesn’t roll much and grips strongly. Ride comfort also impresses, but the brakes are mushy and the steering vague.

The fact the 3008 isn’t a regular hatchback is its biggest virtue, because as an MPV or an SUV, it doesn’t quite convince.

From the outside it rather fails as either flesh, fish or fowl. There's a lot of well-worked detail styling, but in search of MPV-like interior room, the body is bulbous and spills out over the wheels. Ah well, there's compensation once you climb in. The cabin and especially the multi-configurable boot are a lot more spacious than they are in the sleeker Nissan.
    ...
Of course, certain other high vehicles corner well – the Qashqai among them. It's just that they tend to have a harsh, unyielding ride quality. The 3008 defies this compromise and lopes over bumpy roads in excellent comfort. In fact, take a test drive with your family, since these soft motions might even bring on carsickness in kids predisposed to it.
    ...
Verdict: Drives nicely, good inside, useful, but no oil painting

The 3008's reliability isn't so impressive. In the most recent JD Power survey Peugeot ranked an appalling joint 22nd place with fellow French brand Renault, with the 307 - spiritual forbearer to the 308 - placed in a lowly 58th place.

Customers complained that the old model had just too many faults. However, the 308 is expected to perform better, having undergone far more durability miles than any model Peugeot has ever made. The 3008 is no exception, driven in real conditions for over 1.8 million miles.
    ...
Getting comfortable behind the wheel of the 3008 is a little tricky - the seats lack thigh support, but once you find a reasonable driving position you get a commanding view of the road ahead.
    ...
Unusually, the diesel can't match the petrol's ability to deliver its maximum torque peak of 177lb-ft from just 1,400rpm, nor its ability to sprint to 62mph in a sprightly 8.9 seconds.

However, with Irish journalism based on the need to kiss the ass of the motor industry due to the potential loss of advertising revenue, I would not pay any heed to an Irish motoring award!

Irish motor journalist? So the five or six of them got together and decided to give a award.....

Sympathy vote for Gowan group in all honesty given all the layoffs. I dont think anyone with half a brain pays heed to the ICOTY award.

As someone said - journalists are afraid to criticise here for fear of being omitted from the next jolly away for the Daihatsu Sirion facelift or some other equally pointless car.
