Sorry if this has been brought up constantly, but... I am going to have the opportunity to play a bit of golf mid week, so considering joining a reasonably priced course or joining a society.

I have no handicap currently - can I get one from a society? I was also considering joining the likes of Grange Castle, anyone know if their membership is open & what the subs are like? I need a course within easy travelling distance of south Dublin.

as far as I know Grange Castle opens for membership only on New Years day every year (or something like that) it's €500 a year but you still need to pay Green Fees.

If you're going to get out regularly there are planty of clubs doing annual deals now for example Killeen in Straffan and Millicent in Sallins

am a member of grange castle, it was €450 for membership this year, then its €15 midweek or €22 at weekends for a round. Membership is only open for a brief period & tends to be a large enough waiting list usually as far as I know.

I'm sure there are tons of courses offering great value for 5 day memberships at the moment though

    Dublin Mountain 499
    Hazel Grove 650

both are full membership no extra fee to pay each time you play

I've been seriously considering Grange Castle. Its €400 to join (great), but you pay €22 for each round - so if you play once a week, you end up paying nearly €1600 for the year.

Miltown would be about the same & you get allot of that back at the bar... (I do realise that Miltown would have a joining fee also)...
