Great news and great way to raise the profile of CPA over here.

Mutual recognition was recently agreed with Canada, hopefully CPA USA will be next.

Wont happen. The CPA brand is the premier brand in the US, and is very unlikely to sign an agreement with CPA Ireland.

The CPA in Australia and Canada are similarly placed within their countries as CPA Ireland is within Ireland.

I thought CPA Oz was the largest body over there?

As far as I'm aware CPA Australia is far different to CPA Ireland. CPA Australia is purely for industry, and is more highly recognised than CPA in Ireland.

I mean, apart from sharing the same 3 letters, they are both completely different.

CPA Australia - certified practicing accountant

CPA Ireland - certified public accountant

Well they just signed a Mututal Recognition Agreement so an Irish CPA can become a member if CPA oz.

Chartered Accountants Australia would be the premier body. For example if you have a mutual agreement with the Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA) it's good enough for a green card, whereas recognition by CPA Australia is not enough on its own.

CA Australia is a sister organisation of ICAI and ICAEW etc.

CPA Australia are active in Asia and have mutual recognition with the likes of the MIA which has undoubtedly swelled its ranks.
