School sports day

I live across the road from the sports field of a school. A few years back I was in the house. They were running the sports day and they had loudspeakers. Then I heard this ...

"Smoking is not allowed by contestants in the slow-bicycle race".

Anyone got any weird stories, events, results, announcements?

in fairness i don't think anyone's going to top the OP, that's the single most amazing story I've ever heard in my life, and i'm devastated that i wasn't there.

Seriously, the Thanks system has no place in AH.

I actually found the OP's anecdote pretty funny; wish I could say the same about most of the amateur comedians here.

Once, somebody stole all the trophies from our school sports day and so the principal cancelled it and we had a day of her giving out about the wrongs of stealing instead

those trophies look great on my mantle though

Someone managing to escape the school was always great fun for Sports day, quite the adrenaline rush.

Standing at Maynooth train station one morning yer man goes on the intercom and starts singing, really slowly, Happy Birthday to some girl called Eimear.

    Haaaaappy Biiiiirthday tooooo yoooouu...
    Haaaaappy Biiiirthday tooooo yoooouu....
    Haaaaaaaappy Biiiiiiirthday toooooo Eeeeeiiiiiimeeeeaaaaaaar....
    Haaaaaappy Biiiiirthday toooo yooooouu...

    Silence.

Cue confused looks from all waiting.

Welcome to the Sauna! Please stand clear of the doors.
Said over the loudspeaker by and Indian sounding driver of a London Underground train on a particularly hot day as I got on when I lived there.

The Southside equivalent being the silver spoon race?

This didn't happen on sports day, but it is school related. Our caretaker is rather on the large side, so when a ball gets stuck on the roof, we were told the caretaker would get it down, and not any lanky first year.

Also, our Principal said during assembly one morning that he would rather see the girls in skirts:o
