Are they not? Don't know much of the wines so don't know the prices but the discounts look pretty big.

Yeah the discount do look big - but I just did a quick check on the net vs one or two I was interested in . The price on the net is cheaper - its decent value but not super cheap imo.

The prices are good. The website, however, is not.

hhhhmmmmm ... looking at the example below I wouldn't be driving all the way to Stilorgan for this sale ... Im sure a wine buff will be along any minute to contradict me though ....

Backsberg Merlot Organic 2006 €53 for a case of 6 (€8.80 per bottle)

..... from the producers site : note the Aging Potential Recommedation ... I think there's better value to be had off the shelf for €8.80 per bottle

Backsberg Organic Merlot 2006 printButton.png emailButton.png SOLD OUT
    Tasting Notes:
To produce fruit that leads to an organic wine certification, extreme care is taken in the vineyard. Full organic status is only achieved after 3 years. To enhance the vines' and pests, no potentially harmful chemicals or fertilizers may be used in the vineyard. Potpouri, spice and blackberry fruit. This wine has all the goodness of the earth.
    organic_merlot.jpg
    Food Suggestions:
This wine should be enjoyed with salads, fish or chicken dishes. Serve fairly chilled.
    Blend Information:
    100% Merlot
Ageing Potential: Drink within two years.Winemaker: Alicia RechnerCharacteristics: Type : Red
    Style : Dry
    Technical Analysis: Alcohol : 13.06 %vol
    pH : 3.56
    RS : 3.3 g/l
    Total Acid : 5.3 g/l
    Appellation: Coastal

So you're supposed to drink it before it's fully organic?

Did you price check on an Irish website?

Prices look okay, not too amazing for a liquidation sale, there approx 10% cheaper than the website below.

Checkout the following website for comparsion, add 18.99 sterling to deliver 12 bottles to Ireland (minimum order)

    Steenbery Catherina Red @ €86 / 6 bottles (€14.33)

From uk site = £15.99 (€18.20) + extra duty (€1.20) - (extra duty is included in their delivery charge) = €19.40

Still near 30% saving to be had going to stillorgan on UK prices.

its a 2000 though and not listed on the Steenbery site - so whether its still good after 9 years is pot luck. Their 2006 says drink between now(2006) and 8 years. Going by that, the 2000 bottle is past its best.

By all means head down and pick up some wine - Im just saying that you should do your research re: ageing and the prices arent super cheap, just decent value.

I was looking at the Gemtree Uncut Shiraz - which is a decent enough price but I dont want 12 bottles of it.

That shop never sold much, it's off the main road and not easily seen.
With a Tesco Off licence beside it, it was always going to struggle.
I think this is the 2nd time the unit as a Wine shop, has gone to the wall
One might be better off heading up North or trying one of the M&S or Tesco offers when they are on.

I was at the wine sale today and there seemed to be good deals to be had. two points though it was packed and there was a 30 min que. Secondly they were only accepting cash.

I went up today for a look but couldn't get parking anywhere near (Tip don't go when the schools are out :() so gave up, place looked packed though.

I went up around half six and there was a few people trickling through..not packed though. There wasn't a huge amount there - think they had only about 1000 boxes there today much less by this evening. Not everything on the list was in the shop. Its going to be open for the next three weeks - they said there was loads of stuff out in the warehouse so if its not in the shop you can leave your name and they will call you if its in stock.

Apparently same liquidator for the wine shop (Slainte) that was there is now liquidating a "distributor" and using the premises as it has a license to sell to the public.

I checked out this wine liquidation shop at the weekend as heard it was still going on the radio. I am in the market to buy wine for my wedding and it seems to be pretty good value out there.

Can anybody who has bought wine from the shop recommend anything on the listing that might go down well for an May 2010 wedding?
