Game/Dvd stuck in Wii

Someone is giving me a Wii - it connects to the tv alright and the screen comes on. But you can't put a game into the console - there might be a game or a dvd stuck in there. Can this happen and if so is it easy to take a dvd out of a Wii. No point taking the Wii if it's going to cost me a fortune to repair it.
