    hi there jap gt ,
have a look on google for falconry in ireland , ive seen different displays at the game fairs &
there are a few training schools around the country that should put you in the right direction along with others here on the forum

you want to contact the wild life department or your local wild life ranger ,they will point you in the right direction, depends on what you want can be expencive enough to buy them in ireland,a lot cheaper to apply for an inport licence and bring one in from england:D

    If your really serious try this guy;

    http://www.countrysportsandcountrylife.com/sections/falcons/FalconryDisplays.htm

but I would ask about to see if I could find someone in the area , there are plenty of lads working with birds of prey who could take you "under their wing" so to speak:D

I know a lad on another forum and he said the licence isnt hard to get once you've the right set up eg big enough pen for them etc

    Hi ya,
Just to let you know we have tried here to get a falconry thread up & going but we have not had any luck.

If your serious (and you have to be!), get a log in to the International Falconry Forum (see link below) where you can find out plenty of info about owning/keeping/flying a 'hawk'.

1st stop is to find one of the local lads who is prepared to spend some time with you teaching you his 'tricks' of the falconry trade (typically there are 1000+ ways to skin the same cat!).

Spend time getting to find out what sort of set up and licenses you need (most of our Rangers know, or know someone that does!). The preferred beginners bird is the Harris Hawk and there are some decent breeders over here (I have a 4 yr old Female and she's top class at the rabbits).

The IFF forum will give many ideas but the best advice I can give to to work with someone for 6-12 Months, join any hunts/meets, understand what it takes to manage one of these great birds and think hard about the commitment (these birds are so NOT pets +1 or 2 ounces and you see €500.00 fek off into the distance). Oh by the way you need a decent amount of cash to maintain this lifestyle (but its worth every single cent).

Hope I hav'nt put you off, its great really and I'm on my 22nd rabbit, 3rd duck, 4th Pheasant (we don't do corvids!) of the season and its only just started.

    Link to IFF:

My ID is david9999, so feel free to ask anything.

    Hope this helps.
    take care

    Jap,
If you are in Cork, you're in good company! On IFF look at Ross Ricks Goshawk thread (Members birds diarys), you will find Ross (Cork) Keith Barker (Cappaquin), Dave in Carrick and some locals further down (one of ex guys from the Irish Hawking Club is near Kinsale).

PM me and I'll send you basic 'flight' set up to think about and some other links.

The 'gang' love it when we get a an 'apprentice' engaged, so much to learn and so much to enjoy (we're lookin for warriors.... ).

Remember shootin is for wimps, falconry is for REAL (I wonder how many fek off reply's I'll get to that quote!).
