    Hi,

    I'm looking for a digital video recorder that might furfill the following conditions;

    1) Subscription fee (or the features below with paying monthly)
    2) Record from Sky digital (not too worried about terrestrial)
    3) Pre-programme recording by channel and time etc. Ideally with repeat setting.
    4) Able to transfer to PC/Mac and in a standard format & codec; mp4 .avi etc. (Basically not a proprietary format that difficult to convert / work with) If the perfect system over a LAN!
    5) Can be purchased / ordered to Ireland.

    I'm new to this particular tech, so I don't know if above is possible. Any recommendations on models or info is appreciated.

    Sounds like the Azbox Premium is what you should be looking at....its not a dvd recorder though - it has PVR functions though and it will play Divx and Mkvs and it does have Wifi. However the Sky part will be your problem. Keeping the Card alive and whether or not they actually accept those cards.

    Also outside of Sky+ boxes a lot of content is being locked down by sky for this very reason - recording - they are using a blocking system called macrovision.

    File format is TS/TRP Files which are either H264 transoport streams or MPEG2 TS streams. Both are easily converted or played on a PC without conversion.

    Thanks for the reply. Not really the route I want to go down. It might be infeasible to get what I want out of the system, especially with the protection systems running at the moment.

    Maybe a nice simple dvd-recorder would be the job. Can always rip the dvd's later onto the pc.

    A dvd recorder should work with Sky digital though as normally surely?! I'm guessing they (dvd recorders) just work off a SCART or co-axial cable?
