    Hi All,
My employer wants us to take a pay cut which in the current climate I can understand it is 10%, but that is not all that they want. My rate per hour is €20 but they want us take minimum wage rate for our holidays, or else they are going to let us go. I need to know can they do this? Help please:)

    Hi there.

You'd be wanting the Work & Jobs forum - the Irish Economy forum isn't for specific discussion of employment issues but the other forum is. I'll just move this to that forum for you (it's in the Biz category -> Personal -> Work & Jobs)

    No and Yes.

Can they demand you accept lower rates for your holidays? - no.
Can they let you go? - yes.

It's a pretty stupid request by them.

As already stated they can't change your 'holiday' rate -but obviously they can let you go.

What would make WAY more sense would be for them to cut your pay by say 12% (couldn't be bothered working out the correct figure - its a simple calculation) for the entire year - that would be fine (also it would have short term cash flow benefits for them)

From your point of view - I would just accept and view its a 12% (work out correct figure) pay cut rather than a 10% one.
