    Hi,
Myself and my bf have been together 9 yrs, living together for 3yrs, no children. He earns more than i do, we live in his house and all our finances are separate. we dont even have a joint account. he pays mortgage. im not complaining about this and i even asked a few times does he want me to pay half and he doesnt. i buy all the shopping. but apart from that everything is separate. i dont even know how much he has in the bank. i know im probably in a very good situation and im not giving out but sometimes i cant help wondering is this normal? when were out for dinner or cinema etc he always offers to pay so hes very generous. but does eveyone else have joint accounts?

Me and the missus are together 12 years, we have no joint accounts. Never really saw the need, if I'm short money I'll ask for a loan and she will ask if she's short. I pay some bills and she pays others. It always worked so we said if it isn't broken why fix it?

There's no normal, only whatever works for the 2 of you. I think people tend to have joint accounts more when they have joint expenses, like kids or a mortgage in both names or if one partner is the sole earner. Even then most people I know would have a joint account for their joint expenses only and seperate accounts that their wages get paid into, don't know too many people who would combine both their incomes into one account
