They also have the 8GB Sansa Fuze - with 1.9" and video playback - for 39.99, also an unbelievable price.

Could be good for going running
Has anyone else had one and if so what did you make of it?

With the built-in memory card slot, simply pop in a SanDisk® microSD™ /microSDHC™ card**

Very good price for the Sansa Clip, degsie. At its original price it was hailed as the best 'bang for buck' player available. I bought the updated 'Plus' version on Amazon the other day after reading many glowing reviews. People claim the the sound quality of these units is excellent.

    Just to be clear:

The Sansa Clip has no expandable memory.

The Sansa Clip Plus and the Sansa Fuze both have expandable memory.

Great value. I bought the Clip+ on AdvancedMP3 for £59.99 last month, but if I'd seen this I'd have gone for it. This was the Editor's Choice on Anything But iPod last year:

Recommended. I have the Vuse and girlfriend has the Sansa Clip. No real problems with either. The Vuse freezes now and again but its easily fixed.

Had them over a year now and the battery life has gotten a bit shorter but its still grand. Girlfriend uses the Clip for jogging and no problems at all.

The Vuse is grand for tv shows etc.... but the longer the video the more the audio becomes out of sync so its not suitable to watch movies on

    It can play both.

Awesome tip, OP. Just picked these two up
    snapshot.jpg

Got them in Ranelagh. I can tell you from my travels that
Ranelagh have at least one more 4 GB black in stock, no Clips
Baggot St./Waterloo Rd have at least one pink 4 GB, no Clips
Swan Centre Rathmines have one Silver 8 GB, no Cllips.

My original intention was to get an Fuze 8 GB Black and 8 GB Clip, but there don't seem to be any black 8 GBs around and I figured the 4 GB Fuze for €5 more than a (non-existent) Clip isn't bad since it has a bigger screen and expandable memory.

By the way, the sound quality of the Sansa Fuze / Clip+ / Clip is highly praised, definitely a good player for an "audiophile". The other Sansa players... not so much.

I'd have loved to buy a Clip - it's a great player - but Xtravision don't seem to want to sell me one. I can't buy it online. They didn't have it in stock on Baggot St. Didn't have it in stock on Thomas St. And don't pick up the phone in three other branches I've called.

So off to 7dayshop.com for me.

Get a 4GB Fuze instead? It can play FLAC, which is nice. The Fuzes I bought are Christmas presents but the packaging of the silver one was damaged so I decided to give it a little test to see if it worked, hehehe. Enjoying Yeah Ghost in FLAC with my NuForce NE-7Ms...

they don't have any Sansa players in Kilkenny, girls said that they didn't saw any of these recently and don't expect to get them, cheapest player they had is 29.99 for some 2GB archos(?)

I think the carpenterstown xtra-vision is out of all clips/fuze (got the last 8gb silver fuze :D) and the blanchardstown drive thru has 4gb fuze left when I rang up around 1 today. I'm not sure what colour it is.

Thanks OP for the heads up, great little machine.

None in Artane Castle, Phibsboro, Santry or Fairview.

30 mins ago, there was one 4gb Fuze display model in Finglas branch. That's unit only, the box and accessories destroyed/lost due to flooding. The USB charging cable uses a proprietary connection, so it's not much use unless you already have a Fuze.

I just picked up a 4GB black Fuze in Ranelagh. Not sure what's left as they were reorganising the display at the time.

They have stock out the back too, it's not just what's in the cabinet.

Can you just drag and drop mp3's on these or do you have to install software?

You can just drag and drop yeah. But its also compatible with most media players except Itunes as far as I know.

Oh and the only way I have got video to work on the Vuze is by using the install software.

    Cheers degsie!

I've been wanting one of these for a while, I picked up one for me and one for a friend today:)... I'm getting addicted to the BA forum!

None left in Waterford (I didn't try the Dunmore store as I didn't know where it was but none in Lisduggan, Ballybricken or down by Istanbul)

I picked up the last one in Carrick on Suir this evening. It was the display moderl but still works okay, although the earphones don't work at all really. Thanks OP.

By the way, I got the 8gb Fuze for €39.99. I couldn't get any extra discount out of the because it was the display model though but still a great bargain!!

Used it a bit for running. Clips on fine, no fear of falling off as it's so light.
Best with playlists when running, recommend getting a cover to keep rain/condensation off. Picked one up from amazon.

You can convert with Zamzar or the like though to get around that.

This is a perfect example of why iPod's and Apple in general are crap!
They have beautiful industrial design, but are overpriced and lock you in by making stuff proprietary. Rush out and buy yourself another! :P

I'm well aware of Handbrake (been using it for about 4 years...) but that doesn't solve the lossy -> lossy issue. I'm just going to re-rip all my CDs at 320k MP3 like I should have done all those years ago.

I bought one of those Sansa Clips in Xtravision a few weeks back - and it's great.

MP3 Quality wise - I always ripped all my CDs in 320kpbs (VBR) at full bandwidth & quality. This is especially cool if you output the Mp3's through a decent Digital to Audio converter, that you can pick up on ebay for around €150 euros for a decent one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,178 ✭✭✭shnaek

Can't find these in Cork at all. Been to a few xtra visions. Anyone have any luck finding them down here?

Which model is preferable. Fuze 4gb or Clip 8gb ? Dont think the person will need anywhere near 8gb, but at the same time they wont be watching videos. The bigger screen on the Fuze is making me lean in its direction.
