Heard about this on Nothing to Declare recently. A civet which is like a pine marten eats some coffee beans and passes them. Thats collected and made into coffee. MAD!. Who on earth discovered such a thing?
I believe it's woefully expensive. Anywhere in Dublin it's sold?

It's rubbish coffee popularised by lazy journalism and people who wouldn't know a good coffee if it bit them on the arse. I don't see what imagination has to do with it.

    Have you tried it??
Presumably, like everything else, there's good and bad civet coffee, no?
Or is it really just a silly gimmick?

    Yes. It's dreck.
Not really, because the cats just eat random, low grade, (including) plenty of robusta , coffee.
    Yes.

I suppose therein lies the problem. Nobody asked what you thought.

Its pretty bad. Tried a few and they were all kinda lousy. Lots of hype and something coffee proffessionals get tired of answering questions about. Nobody in the specialty industry really takes it seriously. This is a good alternative if you demand excreted coffee though https://www.hasbean.co.uk/pages/Brazil-Camocim-Jacu-Bird-2006%252d2007.html

It's eaten by a cat, exposed to all the acids in it's digestive system and then crapped out. Hard to imagine that it would taste anything other than... well... crap.

The O/H bought me a small bag of these beans at Christmas.

I tried it, and it tasted very bitter / sour to be honest.

SSHHHHHHHH!!! Don't tell her though. I said it was lovely... It was a nice thought (from a non-coffee drinker). And I was excited to get them and see what all the fuss was about!

It's called Kopi Lomak and Java Republic sell it in their headquarters in Ballycoolin Industrial Estate(near Blanchardstown). It will cost you 25 euro for a small pot.
I tried some last summer, and I wasn't very impressed, but if you are a coffee fan it's probably worth the gamble.
