In my opinion i dont think your mates laptop would be a good buy for €1100.
Do you know if the Operating system on his laptop is 64-Bit vista?

If its not then some of the 4GB ram in the machine might aswell not be there.

Here is a quick build i just did for a Studio 15 on the dell website.
This has windows 7 64-Bit and 4GB of ram.

I upgraded the HDD to 7200RPM and also upgraded the screen to a 1080 screen.

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53Ghz, 3MB, 1066MHz)
    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit- English
15.6in Widescreen Full High Definition (1920x1080) WLED with TrueLife
    4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]
250GB (7200RPM) Serial ATA Hard Drive
512MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4570

That comes in at € 1,015.98 on the dell site.

Comparing that to your mates laptop, considering this is slightly cheaper, brand new and you will have a warranty. I know which one i would choose.

The big thing about this laptop is the 1080p LED screen. It's very impressive and I think it might be worth it.

I can get Win7 x64 upgrade from the dell site for free if that helps.

Any one have any experience with the Studio 16.

I have a studio 19 for the last year, ive never had a problem with it.

Before handing 1100 euro out to your mate you should shop around.
Build some laptops on the dell site, build a studio, an xps.

Feck around with configuration a bit. You can sometimes find that configuring a lower end model to high spec comes in cheaper than choosing a high spec on straight away.

The point of buying second hand is to save money usually.
Your mates price is too high imo for that laptop.

I know a few people who have bought off the guy and the prices are really good.
