i have just bought a laptop from usa over ebay, it is second hand used, and they will write that on to postage by i wonder do i still have to pay custom duties and vat or others. ?
forgot to add the price, cost 900 euros;.

note: i have called revenue , they said i wont have to pay 12% duty but i have to pay 21.5% vat.

€900 for a second hand laptop? Was it Alienware or something? What were the specs? You might be lucky and have it slip through customs but they are definitely clamping down more and mroe. And if the price of €900 was declared on the package then you will most likely be hit.

it is xps model. :) normally costs about 2500 euros on dells website. i bought refurbised one actually , but the seller agreed to write secondhand used laptop on the postage. ill wait and see what happens.
    proper specs, xps 1640

2.8 cpu(T9600) , hd4670 graphics, bluray burner, rgb led screen, backlite keybaord, 4gb ddr3 ram, and 256gb ssd.

Strange, for that monster of a laptop setup, the graphics card is actually pretty poor compared to the rest of the specifications....

it is not bad actually, meets my requirments, i thought of buying xps 1730 , but then it is so heavy like desktop, anyone puts eye on 1730 for gaming i tell them if they spent same money on desktop they will get better specs and performance.

i got this only for AOE 3 and secondlife , so basicly i knew what i needed. a laptop with good graphics card. this graphics card still considered one of the best :) on the notebook review websites. and gives good score on crysis which i dont play at all

those XPS 16'' are heavy enough though. They aren't far off the 17'' in terms of weight. Still, not the worst price for those specs. Hope it works well for you!

i dont agree with that, xps 16 is not that heavy as 1730.
imagine you are traveling with 1730 on your back :D

oh believe me I know, I spent two years going around with a Vostro 1700 on my back, that's near 4KG. :p

edit: didn't realize the M1730 is 4.5KG, that's a full KG over your average 17''.

Never travelled much with it. What people normally refer to as the "power brick" is actually the size of a real brick, just with a cable attached. When running on battery, the laptop will run on idle for about 25 minutes.

Still, it did what it was supposed to.

that means that you have to run it always pluged in (with cable basicly) so instead of spending 3k euros on it imagine what kind of desktop you can have with that money .

No, I'm not an Nvidia fan - just in relation to laptops with that type of spec and price point(2.8Ghz dual core), a 4670 is pretty low tech, especially for an expensive XPS. You said yourself that the laptop normally costs about 2,500 - the HD4670 can be gotten in brand new laptops for 700ish euro. That's what I meant....it's pretty remarkably unimpressive for a laptop that's supposed to cost two and a half grand. My own laptop cost 599 euro, it's an Acer and equipped with a 9600M, it comes within about 80% of the 4670's 3dmark score.

Also, it's not accurate to say that its position 29 out of 209 cards, because the last cards on that list are incredibly ancient, it literally includes cards almost a decade old. Hardly a sound comparison base...if you change that to be relevant to be cards in the same generation, the list is less than half that size. Like desktop cards, there are hundreds of cards out there, the vast bulk of which are designed to simply display a desktop and decode video, and not much else. 95%+ of laptops would be unsuitable for gaming. Not to mention, NBC have the most retarded way to list cards - the aged 6800u is listed as being faster then my 9600 in the list, but in any modern games, its much, much slower - would love if anyone could enlighten me as to how exactly NBC rate these cards, because it sure as hell isn't solely on gpu grunt! It lists the 7900GS as being 20 places higher then my 9600M despite being slower. Does that make sense to you? I never use NBC as a reliable source, it's pretty poor to be honest and always has been for rankings based in reality.
    What's wrong with it?

Like I said - nothing wrong with it at all, it's a pretty decent card. But in a 2nd hand XPS that supposedly costs 2,500 new, I'd be expecting more then a 4670 for that sort of cash.

you have made some good points here T.firmer
yes if i had 2500 euros i would not spent that on sxps 1640 with 4670, but also basic 1640 with 4670 is not 2500E
i have just checked and it basic cost 958E included vat and post.

also yes you are right about NBC rating and reviews , but there forums are good for help.
xps 16 is good to buy if it is secondhand and reasonable specs and price tag on it :)
